In the January 31st edition of the Nashville Tennessean Newspaper, a story by reporter, Josh Brown, titled “Insurers field flurry of claims in storm’s wake” appeared in the Business Section. It was a report on the recent storms with tornados and high straight line winds which plunged through Middle Tennessee with wide spread destruction. In the story, the paper stated “Storms often attack the attention of traveling construction contractors and insurance firms over encouraging homeowners to be careful about whom they hire to help.” Rebecca Hirsch, a spokeswoman for the insurance and financial services company USAA was quoted as saying , ” For homeowners needing repairs done, keep records and receipts and use only licensed contractors.” Kip Diggs, a spokesman for State Farm , in the article, commented ,”Homeowners should insist on detailed estimates and be suspicious of bids that are substantially lower than others.”
